Willow Construction

Overview

Environment arch, Frankfurt am Main (germany) 1992
Widewolke, On the Wuhrplatz in Langenthal – 1988

First attempt to reproduce the Sumerian reed bundle construction method with rod bundles. Hazel, alder and willow rods are set up as a hexagonal space continuum of rod bundles on the hard court and fixed to the existing trees.

This project gave rise to the momentous idea of making such bundles of rods exclusively from willow and planting them in order to create large-scale, living structures – veritable architectures.

The Widewolke project is considered as the origin of all living structures.
